Aleksander Skidan

(Russia), born in 1965 in Leningrad. Poet, critic, translator, author of three collections of poetry and two books of essays. He translates contemporary American poets, as well as theory and art criticism.Skidan participated in the International Writing Program (Iowa, 1994) and in the Open World Program (2005). In 1998 he received Turgenev Award for short stoies, which was followed by Andrey Bely Prize for poetry for the collection Red Shifting (2006) and the “Most” (Bridge) award for the best critical text on poetry (2006). His poetry has been translated into many languages and published in different anthologies. In addition, he is a member of “What Is To Be Done?” working group that focuses on the Russian intellectual-artistic situation and its broader intellectual context.
