Esad Babačić
/Slovenia, 1965Esad Babačić
He was born on the 21. of July 1965 at 5 45 AM in Ljubljana. Although he lived very near the primary school, he was a latecomer most of the time. In the seventh grade he stopped going to school. He finished school later in the evening program. His father could not bear to see his son doing nothing, so he sent Esad to work in a factory, where he was already worked. Esad’s life with poetry began with Tomaž Šalamun’s book found between old newspapers. Then he felt it for the first time. In the factory he wrote his first lines. Some of them have been published. This is how his wish for his own poetic book was born. At the beginning, he was writing texts for a punk group named VIA OFENZIVA, for which he also sang. Soon, some of the eminent Slovene’s poet defined it as “real poetry”. In the year ‘84 he had to go to Titograd, Monte Negro to serve in the former Yugoslav army for 13 months. After Yugoslavia’s downfall Esad lost his good will to finish the study of Croatian and Slovene language. Beside writing poetry he started to work as a journalist on the national TV.
