Ester Naomi Perquin

Ester Naomi Perquin was born in Utrecht in 1980, grew up in the province of Zeeland and has been living in Rotterdam for the past twelve years. She followed creative writing classes in Amsterdam and has worked as a prison guard in order to finance her studies. Her debut volume Servetten halfstok (Napkins at Half-Mast) was published in 2007 at Van Oorschot Publishing House. It was followed in 2009 by the collection Namens de ander (In the Name of the Other). Pequin writes a weekly column for de Groene Amsterdammer and contributes radio reports for the VPRO program De Avonden every Friday. In 2011 and 2012 she was the appointed City Poet of Rotterdam. Her work has received numerous literary prizes.
