Kenji Fukuma

Kenji FUKUMA (1949) is a poet, film maker, film critic and scholar of English literature and cultural studies.  Professor at Tokyo Metropolitan University.  He started to write as early as the late 1960s.  He has studied and wrote about the works of modern poets such as Dylan Thomas and W. H. Auden.  As a film critic he has chiefly discussed Japanese cinema in the 1960s.  Since the late 1980s he has distinguished himself as a poet with his own special style appealing to readers.  In 2011 Kenji FUKUMA was awarded two great prizes (Hagiwara Sakutaro and Rekitei ) for his new book, The Blue House, which contained 99 poems written over two decades, and released his third feature film, Summer for the Living.
