Melcion Mateu
/Spain(Spain), born in Barcelona in 1971. He
earned his B.A. in Spanish Literature
from the University in Barcelona and
his MA in Comparative Literature from
Cornell University (Ithaca, New York).
He currently works as a translator and
literature instructor. His first book of
poems, Vida evident, was awarded the
Octavio Paz Poetry Award in 1998. His
most recent work is Ningú, petit (2001),
based on Winsor McCay’s early 20th
century comic book, Little Nemo. Mateu
has translated to Catalan, among others,
poets such as John Ashbery, and novelists
such as Michael Ondaatje. He also
writes literary criticism in the newspaper
Avui and the trilingual literary journal
The Barcelona Review.
