Péter Zilahy
/Hungary(Hungary) Péter Zilahy was born in
Budapest in 1970. He studied English literature,
philosophy and cultural anthropology
in Budapest, New York and
Zürich. He works as an editor in chief of
JAK BOOKS international series, and as
a film maker and photographer. His first
volume of poetry, A Statue Under Its
Sheet Ready to Leap, was published by
Pesti Szalon in 1993. He has received
various awards and support for his writings
(RSS 1996-97; National Cultural
Foundation, 1997 and 1999; Public
Foundation for Hungarian Artists, 1998,
Zsigmond Móricz Prize, 1998; Grant of the European Cultural Foundation 2000;
Grant of the German Foreign Ministry
for Residence in Berlin 2000, Stiftung
Preussiche Seehandlung in 2001). His
last book, The Last Window Giraffe
(1998 and 2000 (2nd revised edition) by
Ab Ovo Publishers, Budapest) has been
translated into 9 languages and a rock
band was also named after it. The book
inspired a Hungarian and German
radioplay and a multimedia CD-ROM in
four languages.
