Bas Belleman

(Netherlands), was born in 1978. He has published two volumes of poetry, of which the first (Still Plenty of Ventilators Left, 2003) was nominated for the most prestigious Dutch award for a debut: the C. Buddingh’ prize. Its successor Wood appeared in 2006. Since then he has held readings both at home and abroad. His Dutch essay Does poetry finally matter? caused quite a stir, raising the question of why poetry is still a marginal genre despite ample publicity and plenty of festivals. He writes prose reviews for a national quality newspaper Trouw and columns about camouflaged euphemisms for a popular philosophical magazine Filosofie Magazine.
