Geert van Istendael

Geert van Istendael (Belgium, 1947) writes poetry, novels, fairy tales and essays. He studied sociology and philosophy at the Catholic University of Leuven. He worked as a journalist for Belgian public television news, (VRT, Dutch language) 1978-1993. His special topics were: Belgian politics; urban and community problems in Brussels; Germany, especially the GDR. He was the president of Belgian (Dutch speaking) PEN-centre (2007-2010). Now he is a honorary president. From 1993 on, he works as an independent writer based in Brussels.
