bound, head still bewildered. Think
away centuries of time and suddenly you stand beside
an old sacrifice: a lamb for a thought
a child for a favorable wind, the heart
of a cradled baby to safeguard
your own body. Think
away the disco music on the mountainside,
the familiar buzz of bees remains, sparrow
and swallow their nest and the fear of losing
the wind in your sail, seeing
your own soul flying. Dearest
with heads to the east let us
make a son.

And he existed. We lifted him
up, whirled him around and

Aan het spit draait het lam, poten
gebonden, kop nog verbijsterd. Denk
eeuwen aan tijd weg, sta je plots naast
een oud offer: een lam voor een gedachte
een kind voor gunstige wind, het hart
van een wiegeling om eigen lijf
veilig te stellen. Denk
de discomuziek op de bergrug weg, blijft
het vertrouwde gezoem van bijen, mus
en zwaluw hun nest en de angst om de wind
in het zeil te verliezen, eigen ziel
te zien vliegen. Liefste
laten we met het hoofd naar het oosten
een zoon maken.

En hij bestond. We pakten hem
op, zwierden hem in het rond en
nog eens en hij kraaide want hij was
in lievelingshanden en toen was het
hup de wereld in met je hart
dat men afpakken kan, kan breken
in een hoek smijten: niks waard zo’n
hart geen porselein of goud, meer een roestig
soort klei en je hebt er zoveel van, ook het jouwe
gaat straks op de schroothoop. Maar hij
wilde niet weg, hij wilde
groeien en blijven waar het goed was en goed
wilde hij worden met vileine streken. Schulp
is een woord als schuld, de kom waarin elk
rondkruipt, telkens opnieuw het lichaam
verkent: ben ik dat, een soort groot
gebaar waarmee ik soms iemand
in het gezicht sla?
