Iman Mersal

(Egypt), born in 1966. She began
publishing poetry at age sixteen and
has since published four collections:
Ittisafat (Characterizations, 1990),
Mamarr Mu‘tim Yasluh li Ta‘allum al-
Raqs (A Dark Passageway is Suitable
for Learning to Dance, 1995), al-Mashy
Atwal Waqt Mumkin (Walking As Long
As Possible, 1997) and Gioghrafia Badila(Alternative Geography, 2006). She has
moved to Edmonton, Canada, where
she now works as assistant professor at
the University of Alberta.
