Marjan Strojan

Marjan Strojan (born Ljubljana,1949) is a Slovene poet and translator. He has published six books of poetry and many translations, including Beowulf (MK, 1992), James Joyce, a selection of his poetry (James Joyce, DZ, 2000), Lavinia Greenlaw, a selection of her poetry (Meridiani, 2000), Robert Frost, a selection of his poetry (Robert Frost, MK, 2001), John Milton, Izgubljeni raj (Paradise Lost, CZ, 2003, 2011), Sydney Lea, a selection of his poetry (Na votlem ledu, CZ, 2006) and Geoffrey Chaucer, Canterburyjske povesti (Chaucer, Canterbury Tales, CZ, 2012). In 1997 he published his Anthology of English Poetry (Antologija angleške poezije, CZ, 1997, 810 pp). Translations of Strojan's work appeared in many languages, including Vylety do prirody (Bratislava, 2003) and El Libro azul (La Plata, 2013) and Dells and Hollows, Autumn Hill Books, USA 2015. Strojan’s honours include: Sovré Translation Prize for Beowulf, Sovré Translation Prize for John Milton, Izgubljeni raj,  Veronika Poetry Award for Marjan Strojan, Parniki v dežju (Steamers in the Rain, CZ, 2000) and France Preseren Foundation Prize for Canterburyjske povesti 2015.
