Milan Dekleva

Milan Dekleva (1946, Slovenija) is a poet, short story writer, playwright, essayist, and pianist. He graduated in comparative literature and literary theory from the University of Ljubljana. He was the editor of the student magazine Tribuna, Radio Študent, a journalist for Dnevnik, editor of Svet v knjigah, and, until his retirement, head of the Children’s and Youth Programs at Slovenian Television. He writes poetry, prose, drama, and screenplays for both adults and children, and is involved in literary and musical journalism. He translates from English and Italian. He has received numerous awards, including the Prešeren Award, Župančič Award, Jenko Award, Rožanc Award, and Veronika Award (twice), as well as the Kresnik Award. He is the author of 27 poetry collections, 10 novels, 3 short story collections, and 4 books of essays. He is also a composer and librettist, and a member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
