Syds Wiersma

Syds Wiersma (Netherlands, 1963) is a Frisian poet, translator, and film archivist. After his first poetry collection in 1992 and a writer’s time-out of about twenty years, he published three volumes of poetry in the last few years: Raffelwjok (2016), Twenty Lovers a Saudade (Tweintich leafdes in saudade, 2017), and Land Without a Lark (Lân sûnder ljurk, 2019). Wiersma also has two poetry collections coming out in the following years. His translations include poems of the Slovenian poet Kristina Kočan. He received the Rely Jorritsma Award for one of his poems in 2020. Wiersma works as a supervisor of the Frisian Film & Audio Archive in Leeuwarden, the capital of Friesland.

The poet is coming to the festival with the support of Nederlands Letterenfonds.
