Prefestival Event: Cinema and Wine

This year, the festival focuses on the poetry and culture of Croatia, therefore we will introduce the festival with a contemporary Croatian film My Late Summer (Nakon ljeta, 2024).

Story:
Maja arrives on a small Croatian island with the goal of proving that she is the daughter of the late sailor Jakša, thus entitled to his inheritance. When she realizes how long the probate process will take, she decides to stay on the island. She gets a job as a waitress in a bar owned by the local mayor, Ićo, which also provides her with accommodation. One day, she meets Saša, an older American immigrant of Yugoslav descent, who has returned to the island out of nostalgia and a desire to write. But their romance is put to the test—not only by the townspeople and the delicate dynamics of the small island community, but also because Maja must come to terms with her own past.
