Karlo Hmeljak

Karlo Hmeljak (1983), sailor and poet. He is the author of Dve leti pod ničlo (LUD Literatura, 2007), Krčrk (LUD Literatura, 2012), Ljubavne (KUD Kentaver, 2012), and Zategadalj (Črna skrinjica, 2022). Krčrk received the Veronika Award in 2013 and has been presented at various festivals. Excerpts of his work have been translated into English, German, Hungarian, Serbian, and Czech. Ljubavne was published in bilingual edition in 2015 by the Serbian publisher Knjižuljak, translated by Romeo Mihaljević. Between 2012 and 2016, he was part of the editorial team of Idiot magazine. In 2019, he worked as a dramaturg on Podgane (Rats), directed by Marko Čeh and produced by Glej Theatre. In 2021, he collaborated with composer Matej Bonin on Gimnastika ne/smisla II (Gymnastics of Non/Sense II), produced by Zavod Sploh. In 2022, he adapted texts for the puppet performance Samost, based on Tomaž Brecelj’s album Cocktail. He is active within the Stran 22 collective and the Izis Festival.
